This years library staff development day took place in Donegal. The day began with a meet and greet in the Letterkenny campus, where staff from Galway, Mayo and Sligo were shown around the library and treated to coffee and goodies!

The purpose of the day was to energise the team and break the routine of a typical work environment – providing team members with a chance to meet each other face-to-face and get to know each other better. What better way to this then by exploring the stunning beauty of the Donegal coastline on a bus tour and sharing lunch together.

We had the pleasure of seeing Ballymastocker Strand, also known as Portsalon beach, located on the eastern shore of Lough Swilly and then visiting Fanad Lighthouse, a fabulous working lighthouse which has been voted one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world and it’s easy to see why. We experienced a fully guided tour, climbing to the top of the very impressive tower. We had the very knowledgeable local guide Aoife talk to us about Teach Solais Fhánada, and why the wrecking of HMS Saldanha was the motivation for the building of lighthouse.

Thanks to the Donegal Library team, especially Michaela, Ciara, Denise and Katy (we’re sorry you missed it Katy) for their hospitality and excellent organisation.
