Subject Librarians

Library staff support collaboration with academic and support staff to improve learning, we have a team of Subject Librarians who are available to assist you with this. Your Subject Librarian is the key liaison for the provision of library and information services to students and staff in your specific subject area.

A crucial role of subject librarians is to provide information skills training. This ensures that library users have the skills required to find, analyse and use information. The best way to incorporate information skills into your course is to make it specific to an assignment, with clear learning outcomes and scheduling the session into the timetable at an appropriate time in the year. We find that the more involved academic staff are in the process, the more successful the learning outcomes. The more information skills training can be tailored to a particular course and incorporated with assignments, the more students are engaged and likely to see it as essential to their learning.
