Journals

Our current journal stock is located on the ground floor of the Dublin Rd. library behind the stairs. Current journals are arranged in the same way as our book stock, according to the Dewey Decimel Classification system. The most recent issue for each title is on display and older issues of the current year can be found by lifting the shelf.

Back issues of journals from the previous year (Dewey 001-499 & 700-999) are bound or boxed and are located further down the library after the current journals. Bound journals in the range 500-699 are located upstairs on the left hand side along the walls and continue at the end of the library. All journals are for library use only.

A full listing of our journals including online journals is available from the library catalogue.

To search for a specific journal title go to Journal title search and type in the journal title, for example: Accountancy. If there is more than one journal title beginning with the word 'Accountancy' then a list will appear and you click on the title you are interested in. If there is only one title then the record for that title will appear on the screen with all the bibliographic information. To look at the hard copy make a note of the Dewey (shelf number) from the location area. The record will also tell you how long we keep the journal for under 'lib has' for example 1999-.

An additional 31,150 full text, including indexing and abstracts for 66,420 journal titles, are available in electronic format via our online database subscriptions. Our WebPac also provides a comprehensive listing of journals with online availability here.

For those journals with online availability, we have provided a direct link from the catalogue records on our WebPac 'Click on the following to: Access Online Resource'.

Library users viewing our journal titles online will experience different types of access depending on the title. Some allow full archive searching of all back issues and give you full text articles, some will only give abstracts (summaries) or TOC’s (tables of contents); while others may only have a selection of what’s available in the printed version. Certain titles require the user to be a subscriber to the print version and will insist on IP recognition or username and password access. If you are accessing from any computer in GMIT, the IP recognition should work, if the journal site is requesting a username and password please check with the Library.
